The short version

The right phone if you will use the S Pen, the big screen and the camera every week. If you will not, you are paying for features that sit in your pocket doing nothing.

Good for

Note-takers and sketchers, people who edit photos on their phone, anyone who wants one device instead of a phone and a small tablet.

Look elsewhere if

You want a light phone for one-hand use, or your phone is mostly WhatsApp, calls and banking.

The Galaxy S25 Ultra is the kind of phone that wins comparison tables. The listing says it all in one line: Titanium Silverblue, 12GB RAM, 256GB storage, a 200MP camera, a 5000mAh battery, a QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen, Galaxy AI, Knox security and an S Pen in the box.

That is a lot of phone. The question is not whether it is good. It is whether you are the person it was built for.

The one feature nobody else has: the S Pen

Most of the specs above have rivals. The S Pen does not, at least not tucked inside the phone itself.

If you are the person who scribbles a phone number on the back of your hand, sketches ideas in meetings, or signs PDFs on the go, the pen changes how you use a phone. Pull it out, write on the screen, done.

If you have never once wished your phone had a pen, you probably will not start now. Be honest with yourself here, because the pen is a big part of what you are paying for.

The camera: 200MP is not the whole story

A big number on the camera is a starting point, not a promise.

A 200MP sensor can capture a lot of detail in good light. But what you see in your gallery depends just as much on the processing, the other lenses and how steady your hands are. The best way to judge any phone camera is to look at real photos people have posted in the comments on the listing and on photo sites, especially photos taken indoors and at night. Those are the hardest shots for any phone.

Living with a big phone

The screen

A QHD+ AMOLED panel at this size is lovely for video, reading and maps. Outdoors in harsh sunlight, a bright AMOLED screen is a real advantage.

The size and weight

This is the part that people underestimate. Big Ultra phones are heavy and wide. If you use your phone with one hand on a crowded train, or you keep it in a shirt pocket, try one in a shop before you buy online.

The battery

The listing calls the 5000mAh battery "ultra long". Big screens use a lot of power, so treat the claim as a hope, not a fact, until you see how you use it. For most people, a full day is realistic.

Storage and RAM

12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage is comfortable headroom. You will not be juggling apps or deleting photos any time soon.

Galaxy AI and Knox, in plain words

Galaxy AI is Samsung's name for a set of features such as summaries, translation and photo editing tricks. Some are useful. Some feel like demos. Knox is Samsung's security platform, which matters most if you use your phone for work.

Neither should be the main reason you buy this phone, but both are pleasant extras.

The honest comparison

Before you buy, ask yourself three questions:

  1. Will I use the S Pen at least a few times a week?
  2. Do I edit or share a lot of photos and videos from my phone?
  3. Am I fine carrying a large, heavy phone every day?

Three yeses: this phone makes sense. One or none: a smaller, cheaper Galaxy or another brand's flagship will give you most of the experience for a lot less.

Our take

The S25 Ultra is a do-everything phone, and it is very good at doing everything. That is exactly why it is easy to overbuy. If you are a pen person and a camera person, this is your phone. If not, keep the money and choose something lighter.
