Buying guide
Should you buy the iPhone 16 with 128GB? A plain answer

A safe, long-lasting phone if you are already in the Apple world or want to be. Think hard about storage before you click, because you cannot add more later.
People upgrading from an older iPhone, anyone who wants a phone that stays quick for years, AirPods owners.
You shoot a lot of 4K video, you love tinkering with your phone, or you depend on Windows and Android gadgets.
Every year somebody in the family asks the same question: "Which iPhone should I get?" Most of the time the honest answer is the plain one, without Pro or Max in the name. The iPhone 16 is that plain one this year, and the listing we are linking to is the 128GB version.
So instead of repeating the spec sheet, this piece tries to answer the questions people actually ask us.
What you are getting
The listing keeps it short: an A18 chip, a new Camera Control button, a "big boost" in battery life over earlier models, 5G, and it works with AirPods.
The A18 is the part that matters most over time. Phones do not usually die. They get slower until you are tired of waiting for them. A recent chip pushes that day further away, and Apple has a long record of updating older iPhones for years.
Camera Control is the new thing on the side of the phone. It gives you a physical way to open the camera and adjust settings. Some people will use it every day. Some will forget it exists. Neither is a reason to buy or skip the phone.
The 128GB question
This is the decision that deserves your attention.
The phone will feel fast for years. The storage will feel full long before that if you film a lot.
Here is a rough way to think about it:
- 128GB is fine if most of your photos sync to the cloud, you do not film much video, and you clear out WhatsApp media once in a while.
- 128GB gets tight if you shoot 4K video of every birthday, keep years of chats with media, or download films for flights.
- Storage cannot be expanded on an iPhone. There is no card slot. What you buy is what you live with, unless you pay for cloud storage every month.
Open the storage settings on your current phone. If you are already using more than about 90GB, 128GB will feel cramped within a year or two.
Things people forget to budget for
- A charger. Check what is in the box on the listing. If you do not have a USB-C power adapter, you will need one.
- A case and screen protector. Glass phones are expensive to repair.
- Cloud storage. If you go with 128GB and take a lot of photos, a monthly iCloud plan is part of the real cost.
- Switching time. Coming from Android, moving chats and photos takes an evening and some patience.
Who should look elsewhere
If you are coming from Android and love customising everything, iOS may feel restrictive. If you want the best zoom camera or the biggest screen, the Pro and Pro Max models exist for a reason, at a much higher price. And if the previous generation is heavily discounted, it can be the smarter buy for someone who only uses WhatsApp, YouTube and banking apps.
Our take
The iPhone 16 is the least risky iPhone to recommend. It will be quick for a long time, it plays well with AirPods and other Apple devices, and it does not ask you to pay for features you may never use.
Just do not treat 128GB as an afterthought. Check your current usage first. That one minute will save you a lot of deleting later.
